John Rubin is the Albert Coates Professor of Public Law and Government. He is the faculty advisory for the Collateral Consequences Assessment Tool, an online searchable database that helps attorneys, other professionals, and affected individuals understand the complete impact of a conviction. Rubin is the author of Relief from a Criminal Conviction: A Digital Guide to Expunctions, Certificates of Relief, and Other Procedures in North Carolina, which supplements the School’s Collateral Consequences Assessment Tool. Rubin specializes in criminal law and indigent defense. Prior to joining the faculty at the School of Government, he practiced labor law for nine years in Washington, DC, and Los Angeles, CA, where he learned about the impact of criminal proceedings on his employees and clients.
